What is a multimodal project / essay?

You may find that your next research assignment involves more than doing research and "writing a paper".  Today, many English composition classes are assigning the inclusion of multimodal elements which differ from their more traditional counterparts by going beyond "text" to include any combination of:

  • Images
  • Sound
  • Color
  • Animation
  • Text

(Adapted from Takayoshi, Hawisher, & Seife, 2007, p 1).

A multimodal essay combines two or more of mediums of composing, such as audio, video, photography, printed text, magazine cut outs, a hypertext web document, a website, etc.
